Week at a Glance: May 16-26, 2016

Mon., 5/16  Since it was awards day, we watched a video on the U.S. National Parks since it is the 100 year anniversary

Tues., 5/17  Field Day

Wed., 5/18 -5/19  CW:  Students received their study guides and they worked on completing them in class.

Fri., 5/20  CW:  Students had a friendly competition on a quizzler activity because I had a sub since my granddaughter graduated Fri night.

Mon., 5/23  CW:  1.  Students are continuing to work and complete study guide.     HW:  Begin studying for exam which will be Thurs,5/26, all science exams during 6th period.

Tues., 5/24  CW:  1.  Discuss answers to study guide and review

Wed., 5/25  CW:  1.  Study for exams:  ELA and Social Studies today

Thurs., 5/26  CW:  All students take match exam during 3rd and 4th periods, all students take science exam during 6th period.

HW:  Have a wonderful and safe summer break!!!!!!!

Week at a Glance: May 2-6, 2016

**Now that TN Ready has been cancelled for this year, student’s final exam will be standards based questions (50) that have not been on a previous test but will cover standards concepts.

Mon., May 2

CW:  1.  Students complete Final Exam Quick Notes on standards for final exams to be held May 25-26.  Students turn in quick notes for a grade.       2.  Students calculate solar system scale distance model 4″ = 8,000 miles (same as physical models for planets and sun) based on A.U. distances.

Tues., May 3

CW:  1.  Students will go outside after calculating scale distances to stretch out solar system model.           2.  Students will discuss and write a paragraph about Earth’s special place in the solar system for life.

CW:  1.  Students will perform lab on How to Use a Microscope and answer questions related to microscope use.

HW:  Students will complete lab analysis questions on microscope use.

Thurs., May 5

CW:   1.  Students will go outside and find a small object to view under the microscope lenses.  Students will make a detailed sketch of object and color.

HW:  Complete any coloring of object drawing not done in class.

Fri., May 6

CW:  1.  Students will view prepared slides of various organisms.  Students will make a detailed sketch of slide subject and color.  Students will view 3 slides in class during class period.

HW:  Read over Motion, Earth and Cell Energy Quick Notes (even just 15 mins. before bedtime will help to store information into their long-term memory).

CW:  1.  Students discuss and complete Inquiry, Technology and Engineering Quick Notes working in teams today.

Thurs., April 28

CW:  1.  Students discuss and complete Cells Quick Notes working in teams today.

HW:  Read over all Quick Notes, especially paying attention to the standards that are their weakest testing areas.

CW:  1.  Wrap up review of standards with practice questions (team game with whole class).

HW:  Read over all Quick Notes but especially trouble areas and REST, state-wide TCAP on Monday.

CW:  1.  Students complete item analysis for TCAP post test and compare results to the same pretest taken in Aug. 2015

HW:  Students continue to study weak standard areas or concepts in preparation for state TCAP.

Week at a Glance: April 11-15, 2016

**TCAP end of course class test is Mon and Tues, April 18-19 (70 questions) testing all 7th grade standards!**

Mon., April 11

CW:  1.  Calculate % correct from this year’s chapter and unit tests for each standard.  All 7th grade standards have been covered and tested as of last Friday,
April 8.  Students should focus on standard areas where they are below 70% as that means they are not proficient.  70%-85% is proficient and 86% and higher is advanced.

HW:  Students need to study standard areas where they are not proficient to prepare for upcoming in class TCAP end of course class test next Monday and Tuesday.

Tues., April 12

CW:  1.  Students move around with a partner(s) to stations to answer questions from the 2015 TCAP test on earth and motion standards.

HW:  Students complete page 1 of TCAP vocab review sheet in TCAP checklist packet.

Wed., April 13

CW:  1.  Students move around to stations answering questions on cell/life science standards.

HW:  Students complete the 2nd page of their TCAP vocab review sheet in TCAP checklist packet.

Thurs., April 14

CW:  1.  Guest speaker, Susan McDaniel, is bringing in pig lungs to show students the effects of tobacco on lung tissue.  She will also demonstrate how our lungs function to inhale/exhale.

2.  Students will complete cell/life science standard questions.

HW:  Students complete 3rd page of TCAP vocab review in standards checklist packet.

Fri., April 15

CW:  1.  Students work in stations to answer TCAP review questions on Inquiry/Tech and Engineering standards.

HW:  Students complete 4th page of TCAP vocab review in standards checklist packet.  This packet is worth 100 pts. as a HW assignment that is due on Monday, April 18.

Beginning on Monday and completing on Tuesday, students will take a TCAP end of course class test that will test them on all 7th grade standards.  We will then go over this test to determine where they are still weak in standard content to review Thursday and Friday of next week.  TN Ready and their science TCAP are the following week April 25-28.

CW:  1.  Students will view a video clip on Human Traits and complete a survey to determine what traits they have/do not have.  Students will calculate the % of the their class that exhibits those traits.

HW:  Students will interview 2 family members to determine which of the traits that they possess and compare them to the student’s traits.

Wed., March 9

CW:  1.  Students begin a genetics lab activity where they will work with a partner to flip a coin to determine dominant and recessive traits for an offspring for 29 facial variations.

Thurs., March 10

CW:  1.  Students will draw a “portrait” of their genetics activity offspring showing the characteristics determined during the coin flips for traits.

Fri., March 11

CW:  1.  Students will complete their offspring “portrait” and glue their dominant and recessive traits list to each side of the “portrait”.  Students will answer analysis questions on the back of their “portrait” page.  Students will turn in their portraits for a grade along with data sheet.
